Varun Dhawan- The New Govinda In David Dhawan's Life; Actor To Take Forward 'No. 1' Series
The popular father-son jodi, Varun Dhawan and David Dhawan are going to bring back the No. 1 series magic which became the ace filmmaker's trademark in the '90s
Varun Dhawan may be doing film projects with varied filmmakers, but when dad David Dhawan needs him, as a doting son, he is always there to make time for his movies. The two have already collaborated for films like Main Tera Hero (2014) and Judwaa 2 (2017). While the first one was a hit, the sequel to Salman Khan's 1997 film Judwaa became a blockbuster with collections over Rs 100 Cr at the box-office.
Now, reports suggest that the two are once again collaborating and this time it's going to bring back the popular 1990s franchise started by David - the No. 1 series. While Govinda used to be a part of most of the films in the series there were a odd few which starred Salman and Sanjay Dutt as well. Looks like Varun is the new Govinda in daddy's life.
Talking of this new collaboration, a source has told Mumbai Mirror, “Impressed with Varun’s performance in one of his upcoming films, David wanted to collaborate with his son again for an out-and-out comedy for which he has already begun pre-production and frequent meetings with technicians. However, this one isn’t a remake like Judwaa 2 but an original script that will revive David’s No 1 series. David and Varun are hoping to recreate the magic with this film, which is expected to roll next year. The rest of the casting will begin after the script is locked.”
Talking about his dad's career having many ups and downs, Varun had once told in an interview, “As pointed out by Newton in his third law, ‘For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction’ so what comes up, goes down and vice versa. And dad bounced back with a Partner and a Mujhse Shaadi Karogi. It’s just that his strike-rate was so good that anything less was a downer. He was the most successful director of the ’90s."
Varun is currently busy with Abhishek Varman's Kalank. He will be seen sharing screen space with stars like Sanjay Dutt, Madhuri Dixit, Alia Bhatt, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kriti Sanon. Post Kalank, he is going to collaborate with Shashank Khaitan for Rannbhoomi. Once done with these, Varun will move on to collaborating with his dad for the No. 1 series. Will he get lucky with his dad for the third time after Main Tera Hero and Judwaa 2 and will the duo be successful in recreating the same No. 1 magic yet again? We hope so!
